all about the one and only Matt Page

Hello everyone, my name is Matt Page and I am going to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a graduating senior at this wonderful university in Northridge. I am very excited to finally be done with school (I was only here for 5 years). I have been studying in the English department and I hope to teach high school English and also teach film. I love to read books, all types of books that are reccommended to me by anyone who also enjoys reading. I also love watching movies, ask me about any movie and I can talk for hours

I would like to teach right after college but the credential exams are really hard to pass right away. I really do hope that teaching does work out for me. I have wanted to become a teacher since High School, I was influenced by many great teachers that I decided to be just like them influencing future students. I sometimes fear that I will not be a good teacher like mine from High School but I know i'll be fine as a teacher. I am really looking forward to seeing what will happen after college and hopefully i'll begin teaching soon after I graduate. I'm not really sure what role technology will play in my teaching. I dont really know a lot of English teachers that uses technology in their classes so i'm not sure if i'll use it in my classroom.

Well I believe that's really all I can think of about myself off the top of my head. If there are any questions or just want to know more about me then you can email me.

Yeah I understand what you mean about using technology. Seems like the most technology an English teacher needs is a book and a pen and paper. I do hesitate to say using film in a lit class because I always found that as somewhat pointless. We get enough out of the book to where the movie will show nothing new.

That is not to say that a film as lit class wouldn't be a good idea. We didn't have that at my school. All we had was a film class that concentrated more on the film aspects over the story.

I think you will be a fine teacher. You seem to have the drive and passion to be a good teacher. You also have some great aspirations if you want to inspire your students. Do you want to teach with the teachers you had at your High School or any school that will have you? See you Monday.

I totally agree that technology in an English class can seem out of place, but I also believe that in certain instances the use of technology can benefit and enhance the student understanding of a story. Because technology in classrooms can easily be abused and become arbitrary if the technology overshadows the actual lesson, I think its up to the teacher to decide where to use it, if he or she decides to use it at all.

Its cool that you were influenced to become a teacher by having good teachers yourself. I'm the same way. I think its a really strong foundation to base becoming a teachers. A lot of people become teachers for the wrong reasons, and its awesome that your not one of those people. And you're not the only one who's nervous about the credential programs and tests, i'm way nervous, but I have a feeling we'll be fine.
